K‐FORCE training visit at AAU ‐ May 7-19, 2018

The K-FORCE training course on Knowledge Building in Disaster Risk Management was provided by the group on Risk, Reliability, Resilience and Sustainability of the Built Environment (R3+SBE) at the Department of Civil Engineering.

The training course is comprised by two parts, namely one week of preparation for the advanced course and one week of participation in the advanced course (see course plan for the advanced course below). More information on the advance course may also be found on: https://www.en.aau.dk/events/event/jcss-advanced-course-on-systems-risk-modelling-and-analysis-in-engineering-decision-making.cid347461. During the first week the trainees were introduced to the Department of Civil Engineering and were provided with information about the general principles of Project Based Learning. Moreover, the students were provided teaching and training in the field of risk and safety in engineering.

The following K-FORCE project participants took part in the course:

  • Gordana Broceta, University of Banja Luka, Republic of Srpska, B&H.
  • Damir Malkocevic, University of Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • Ivan Lukic, University of Novi Sad, Serbia.
  • Kapidani Mariola, University of Tirana, Albania.
  • Artan Hysa, Epoka University, Albania.

Main objective of the training course was to support the trainees to establish a lasting knowledge platform which facilitates that the trainees:

  • Acquire forefront knowledge of high relevance to the topic of DRM through participation in the advanced course on Systems Risk Modelling and Analysis in Engineering Decision Making (jointly organized by R3+SBE, the Joint Committee on Structural Safety, the Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Development Center and the K-FORCE project - with open participation of professional and PhD students together with K-FORCE trainees).
  • Attain training and teaching instruments facilitating their own learning process and later also their own teaching abilities.
  • Establish a first peer group of professionals across the borders of the WBC’s – a professional network - enhancing the resilience of Kwledge for Resilient Society.

The training course was designed with three supporting sub-objectives in mind:

  1. Prepare the trainees for an advanced course on a topic of central importance for DRM.
  2. Introduce the trainees to the concept of Problem Based Learning (PBL).
  3. Provide the trainees the advanced course with expert teachers and supported exercise sessions.

The evaluation of the advanced course was very positive from the side of the participants of the advanced course, and also from the side of the involved teachers.
